BEAST's Junhyung Talks About Being Compared to G-Dragon

Since the debut of idol group BEAST in 2009, member Junhyung has been attacked by many for similarities to Big Bang leader G-Dragon.
With the release of his debut solo EP Flower, the group's main rapper is trying to set himself apart and stand on his own as a legitimate force in the Korean music industry. However, many G-Dragon fans are still claiming his entire concept as an artist is a rip-off of the YG Entertainment superstar.
In a recent interview, Junhyung addressed the concerns once again, and had a lot of wonderful things to say about G-Dragon.
"It's a bit of a shame," he began. "G-Dragon is a much superior senior artist than I am. I think he is extremely charismatic when it comes to music."
"I have always had respect for him," explained Junhyung. "I think it is an honor just to be compared to him.
Junhyung's new title track "Flower" has been sweeping music charts with its catchy beat and fresh sound. The music video is a dark, psychedelic mix of curious imagery and while G-Dragon is known for using similar elements in his releases, it is fairly obvious when watching Junhyung in action that his approach differs greatly.
Big Bang and G-Dragon fans still do not seem satisfied, and to them the BEAST member said, "In case G-Dragon's fans are offended because of me, I will apologize."
What do you think? Is Junhyung piggybacking on G-Dragon's success, or is he giving us something new and exiting? What are your opinions about this? Let me know via Twitter and Tumblr.  You can follow me and as always, Happy K-Popping!! =)))

THE HEIRS - Review

Started out like something poignant, moving, and realistic. It was wrapped in this double sheen that you can't wait to peel off in order to behold the surprise within. Unfortunately, it simply got boring down the line, especially on the last 4eps. :3

Heirs was hyped up as having one of the best casts (especially for eye candy), great writer, yada yada yada.*insert troll face* The ratings seemed to support that, however many fans of dramas watched and were disenchanted with the first few episodes; some fans throughout the whole drama. I am not one of those fans. XD While I would not call Heirs a rousing success, it was a good drama.

Why was it good? Many things contributed to both the good and the bad of this drama. The writer and director were not at the top of their game the first 4-6 episodes, but by episode 7/8 things began to get good… and once they started the ball rolling, it ended on a great note.

The actors…. it’s hard to pull a cast together like they did and NOT have some of the best actors in the business, and they did. There were quite a few standouts with acting, but I’d have to say Kim Woo Bin (Choi Young Do) was probably the best of them all. :D Don’t get me wrong, Lee Min Ho and Park Shin Hye are excellent, but because they were the leads and in the spotlight, it’s much easier to say their acting wasn’t up to par for many episodes. I do not blame the actors, however. I blame a lot of this on the writer and director. XD

Once everyone was one the same page, their love story became more believable, Kim Tan and Eun Sang’s pain was evident for all to see, and the emotions hit you in the gut.

Kim Woo Bin was on the ball from minute one, though. I don’t know if it’s because he’s played nearly nothing but these types of roles, or if it is because he saw the best way to play it without direction, but he was on fire in this drama. I could list all of the other actors that were amazing, and there were plenty (not just the pretty ones either!), but I don’t need to. :) There honestly wasn’t a bad actor in the bunch, not even a mediocre one. The parents, the kids, the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th love story partners… they were all great.

On a special note, why the writer couldn’t have put more of the Bo Na and Chan Young relationship feel into Kim Tan and Eun Sang’s relationship, I’ll never know. These two were the highlight of the show for many episodes for me.

It had a message, a very clear message, and the final episode brought it home in Technicolor.

In many dramas you always see the rich guy/girl who can’t love the poor guy/girl because of class differences. You see the wealthy marry off their children as if it’s a high stakes poker game and the winner laughs the loudest. You find nearly nothing but dysfunctional families because of these same reasons… no one is allowed to love who they want without some miracle taking place.

Heirs took on the challenge of showing you a much clearer and realistic picture of this practice. Being a second son, Kim Tan should have had the freedom to love whom he wanted, but daddy dearest didn’t agree. In the end, what they give you for the finale is not an unrealistic ending. They showed the reality of this practice with Won. They showed the effects on Rachel and her mother Esther. It was a very good look at an often “overcome” issue in dramas. It was nice to see a story that ended with a bit of realism. :)

The OST was amazing, even if you did get sick of hearing “Love is the moment” every other scene. They had many songs they could have used in the OST for some of these times, but chose to pretty much go with that song alone. The other song I loved dearly was “Love Is”. Lee Min Ho also sang a song for the OST which only got used in episode 17, which kind of sucked. I really liked it and think it could have been used more too.

Cinematography… the drama was beautiful. The filming locations were chosen with major care and were gorgeous. The way shots were filmed, the direction in action during filming, all of it was remarkable. Though it’s fair to say the writer and director had their collective heads in the sand for the plot and acting, they were on full charge when it came to visual effectiveness of each scene and location. Even the fashion (though I heard LMH bought and used his own things) was amazing for the most part… some of the fuzzy sweaters could have been left at home, but good lord I want some of those trench coats BAD! Oh, and the white suit LMH wore. HAHAHAHA.

The feels… yes, there were feels. It didn’t happen, except for Young Do’s character, until at least episode 7 or 8, but they were finally there. KWB was able to cause feels with his character from the beginning. And though it took a while for things to develop and get the emotion to you, once it did, you felt it a lot. Kim Won, Young Do, Kim Tan, Eun Sang, Tan’s mom, and ES’s mom… these are the ones that made me feel the most, not necessarily in that order. Again, Kim Woo Bin as Young Do stole most of the feels in my opinion.

In summary, I think overall this was a 7.5 or 8 out of 10. I was hoping that it would be a 9 or 10, for many reasons, but it didn’t happen that way. I sincerely hope this drama doesn’t hurt or hinder LMH because he’s so much more than this.

Faith and City Hunter showed the skills he really has and I hope he can find a movie or drama that give him the freedom to be as good as he can be next time. Park Shin Hye is always a great actress, but I’d really like her to take some lessons in being affectionate! Kim Woo Bin… dude, just go do what you do, you need no instruction.

Choi Jin Hyuk, I love him and I’m so glad you’re in another drama right away so I don’t have to go months without him! I thought he was amazing in Gu Family Book, but he ruled in Heirs. :D :D

TO THE BEAUTIFUL YOU - Review

Just finished! Yea! =) Prior to watching I haven't seen the two other versions so I'm not really in the position to make any comparison, I have no idea which was more accurate. So I'll just write this review based on the criteria. The Japanese Manga and Taiwanese show are on “My - To - Do” list. :)

This was a very enjoyable production once I stopped comparing versions. It's definitely better rounded and has a well thought out story line. The characters seen more well rounded with interesting back stories and in this love triangle each guy gets a fighting change..

Story is okay, it's not original of course, since it's just a remake, but I did like how the story progressed. The pacing was just right, not too fast nor too slow. I loved the side stories better though than the main plot itself. LOL

While watching To The Beautiful You most times I felt sad and missed the charm. Joke! XD

It was fun and had a charm that made me fall in love with the story. The Korean is really better in every way. :) BUT a lot of times it felt like Jae Hee was being too obvious wasn't even trying to be a boy. And it took a long time for Tae Joon to grow on me.

The cast was lovely, but the lead couple's acting was so-so. :3 I'm a Shawol, but I kinda find Minho's acting annoying at times. Sulli was bearable for me though it’s really fun watching her. :) I love you Minho so I gave this drama a shot, but OMG you really need to improve your acting. :3

This is the first time I got more interested with the supporting characters rather than the lead couple. The supporting characters had more substance in them. I'd especially like to commend Lee Hyun Woo. That kid really really really really really knows how to act. It was him who carried the entire show, in my opinion. He knows how to be cute when he needs to be cute, and knows how to be sad when needed. He can portray well whatever he needs to portray, and I was really awed by his great talent at such a young age as that. Honestly, I don't think I'd manage to finish this drama if not for Hyun Woo's adorableness. :D :D

The music was great. Well it's really no surprise since the production company's SM entertainment and it'd be really disappointing if the music turned out to be bad.

Overall, the drama's only visually attractive, but not so substantial, so if you're looking for something pretty to look at then you could try this one out. It’s a very admirable production. :)

"The Heirs" Choi Young Do - Rachel Yoo Couple?

Gah, I hate the writer because she screwed big time with the plot but more importantly with the supposed Young Do/Rachel couple who were supposed to be like Blair/Chuck of Gossip Girl.Seriously, she had all good things to make those two into a freakin' amazing couple who will rival the main one. Like how he constantly teased her by saying "My sister is just my type" "Welcome SISTER" or "Should we date ?" But NOOOO, the writer had to make Rachel kiss Hyo Shin for no freakin' logic reasons and weirdly, BAM, those two are supposed to have feelings for each other ... Talk about being rushed. It's a waste of characters and talent, seriously of seriously.

Pretty Man” ratings have seen a slight uptick.
According to Nielsen Korea, the episode of KBS 2TV Wednesday-Thursday drama “Beautiful Man” broadcast on December 12 (Episode 8) recorded a nationwide rating of 3.1%. This was a 0.2% improvement from the previous day’s viewership rating of 2.9%.
In Episode 8 of “Pretty Man,” Dokko Ma Te (Jang Geun Suk) was ordered to get into a scandal with Myo Mi (Park Ji Yoonin a cameo role), a hot celebrity with a lesbian controversy. So began their fake relationship, and an awkward date ensued. Myo Mi finally reveals her hidden secret at the end of the episode.
Meanwhile, both SBS’ “The Heirs” and MBC’s “Medical Top Team” aired their final episodes, recording 25.6% and 5.6% respectively in ratings.
SBS’ next drama, “You From Another Star” (formerly titled “My Lover From the Stars”), features Kim Soo Hyun and Jeon Ji Hyun, reuniting after hit caper movie “The Thieves.” MBC is following up with “Miss Korea,” withLee Yeon Hee and Lee Sun Kyun as the leads.
With ratings juggernaut “The Heirs” over, “Pretty Man” still has eight episodes left to go and a head start over the other two new dramas. Will it be able to capture a greater viewership, or will it become a drama catering to a niche audience?

"He's Beautiful" Review

Just finished!!! =))) I had high expectations for He's beautiful. And it didnt fail me. I instantly fell in love with this drama! Jang Geun Suk is amazing and Park Shin Hye is really beautiful. LOLOLOLS. Tae Kyung's pout. Too cute. *O* But i prefer Shin Woo for Go Mi Nyu too. Jeremy is sooooo adorable. :))) This Drama will remain in my head for ever. The acting and story-line was fantastic. The actors met their emotional objectives as it had me in tears and flustered over the mishap that eventually leads to love.

Now we all know the concept of this drama. A girl pretending to be her brother in an all male band. Of course that is just yelling trouble. As the series progresses you learn more about these characters and you come to either dislike them or love them. Sometimes maybe somewhere in the middle.

With this drama you'll be feeling a range of emotions. You'll find yourself laughing one moment and crying the next. LOL. Your heart will be melting one minute and then breaking the next. The acting was exceptional and the music was memorable. I can't go a day without finding myself humming to songs. *wink*

It really set the standards for the other to come. If you’re looking for a boy meets girls and fall in love drama then this is for you but remember to every good story there is an up and down He's Beautiful conveys both so well :D

All in all the drama was delightful one to watch and would highly recommend it. :)
